I’m ready to go back now!

After living your life out of a suitcase for a while you get the art of packing light down to an art. Distilling everything down to the essentials. For some reason the same thing happens to life in general. All the un-essential bits get left out either by purpose or just because I don’t, can’t, seem to find a way for them to have any importance.

I’ve landed in Montreal last Sunday around midnight and as I’m writing this down it’s Sunday close to midnight. In the span of one week I’ve managed to cover all the essential bits, if only very lightly in some case but covered them I did.

The important bits, in no peculiar order:

I’ve spent some time with my best friend in the whole wide world. (I’ve flown over, at least half of it so you can trust me when I say the world is a big big big place) Anyway, my best friend and his lovely wife are having a child and if that where not enough cause to be happy they saw it fit to name me the child’s godfather (not, as you may be thinking the crazy gun toting Italian type of godfather; more the doting kind)

I’ve spent a pleasant Friday with my other friend (yes, I can count all of my friends on one hand… I can even amputate a few fingers and count them all) A Friday for which I’m really glad she could make the time.

And just this evening I’ve had a grand meal with my whole family.

I’ve given a few gifts here and there to the people I care, to make them smile, to bring in a bit of sunshine. I’ve even managed to receive a completely unexpected and really really cool gift. A signed copy of "Alienor" by Richard Desjardins, how cool is that?

I took care of my bonsais who are extending their new growth and are therefore in need of a bit of training.

Did a bit of yard work with dad, took in the sun.

It’s a fairly light suitcase you’ll agree but in the end, all pared down these are my essentials and I really don’t need anything else. I’m ready to go back, everything’s been covered. Luckily, I still have a week and a few days to go and all I really need to fill those days in is more of the same, lot’s more, of all of it.
