Anchors Ahoy!

Remember the canoe? Yeah the one this whole blog was supposed to be about. Well, I haven't forgotten it but can't very well start building it if I'm going to be out of the country for a couple of years now can I. As usual at work when I get bored I doodle of ideas I have and sometimes build them on the spot (see the pik nik candle holders) Anyway, on that day I doodled an idea about small, light but still effective anchors for a canoe. Of course there should be two so that the canoe can be anchored an not swing to the mercy of wind and/or current.

This is the end product. They're foldable so they take up very little space once they're stowed away yet they have sufficient holding power thanks to the spikes. The one on the left in the picture is folded up and, of course, the one on the right is deployed for action. They weight in at three and a half pounds which is acceptable in my view. I've found some on the net ranging from one and a half to six pounds. I figure with two anchors of three and a half I should be ok.

They still need a paint job and I'm as of yet undecided as to what colour and most importantly what kind of paint. They need to survive immersion and physical hardship so I thought cold galvanizing or aluminum paint or something of the sort. Humm, maybe I'll get them chrome plated...
