Street Light and the Steampunk Phenomenon

Steampunk! Ha possibly a new word for some! It's an artistic movement principally literary in scope but ever changing as it matures. I'll let you browse the Steampunk entry in Wiki. Pay close attention to sub-heading number six. That's the one I find most interesting. Or, alternatively, google steampunk, there are thousands of entries to choose from.

Though literary at it's base I find the steampunk anachronistic visions of our present and in some cases our future at best, quaint. What I do love is the steampuk design ethos that is slowly shaping up through the hands of 1000's of craftsmen (persons whatever, to hell with pc) throughout the world. The adaptation of modern conveniences to design principals and craftsmanship of the the late 1800 early 1900's. Often times utilizing the very materials that where available at the time.

So with that in mind I'd like to present the thing I call the "street light". It is unfortunately not very close to the steampunk ideal of design. I guess if your an active part of the "machine age" for as long as I've been it sorta shows through when you design something. My lines tend to be a bit purer with less convolutions. Though steampunk is what I had in mind when I started on this little project. Yes, you guessed it I was bored at work! It stands only 8 inches tall and yes there is actually a light bulb in it and it works. Forget about the nasty shadows from the flash. Oh, and I put a quarter leaning on the base to give an idea of scale. Maybe I should put a quarter in every picture so you can get an idea of size whenever I post something.
